THE CALIFORNIA QUAIL

The California Quail are multi-colored; brown back and wings, gray-blue breast, white streaks on it's sides and scaly pattern on belly. Prominently it wears a forward-curving plume. A covey can number up to 25 with babies. Quail usually post sentries as they feed, or in this case dust. They are easily frightened but will more than likely run than fly. This photo was taken at dusk, so they are heading for the tree above Mom ...........................................slowly.
