LOCAL NEWS AT CAMPO OCOTILLOS

ARCHIVES 2006

Summer is here, Snowbirds are gone. Most of them have house-sitters enjoying the luxury of living where we can see and enjoy the waterfront. However, this is an open invite to bandidos who have taking ways. Early this spring we had a gal named Frenchie (who claimed she was looking for her lost dog ) and walking away with your computer, camera, money or what-have-you. Just recently we had someone who just happened to pick up a non-resident's propage tank and some tools. However, we residents are trying to be vigilant. We did get most of the money back from Frenchie's haul, and this time we have a very clear photo of the tire marks and foot-print. We all now have the facts and are playing detectifve.

Could this be your footprint and tiretrack. Beware!!!

Christmas 2005

Didn't do a very good job of keeping this up. I, Shirley Thompson, am retiring on Dec 31 from my office job and hope to do another update to this page. In the meantime, here are the pictures from our lovely Christmas Day dinner on the patio. It was 74 degrees, all sweaters were off. There were many group dinners around camp this day. Hope more will bring in their pictures. st

Sept 15, 2005

I'm happy to say that things are really progressing in this town and in this camp. Slowly but surely San Felipe is becoming it's own Municipally. Already it has the formal title of City, although that doesn't mean what I think of in the States. It's just one more step to becoming a reality with it's own Mayor and City government. But it WILL come to pass very soon, as construction is going wild here. There are plans in the works for 7 major complexes. Some of them affect us here in the north of town.

El Dorado is going wild, building etc. Likewise many other places are sprucing up their fronts. Pete's Camp for instance is working on a beautiful little front. Someone has built a new small Mall just this side of Playa Del Oro and have a Farmacia almost ready to open in that new Mall. There is a large bill-board at the Saltina cut-off announcing a huge new Mall to go in on that corner, (Von's, Costco size; I have no idea what stores actually) And we're going to have a gas station across the highway from that spot, I understand.

It is happening south of town too, a little bit slower. Right in front of Dorothy Biely's they plan to build a 7 story hotel/condo or ??? and she and Bruce and the others are furious. It cuts off their view.

Here in Campo Ocotillo, things have been slow through the summer. That is not to say we haven't been busy. There are probably 3 small construction crews working here. To help you orient yourself while reading of our progress, the road leading into camp is named Camino Real and the one crossing at Cory Dudley's house is Camino Viejo.

In the HOACO project (our triangle)

Bert Streppel is doing his own construction with a little outside help, and is coming along very fast. Still in the building stage, and not pretty enough for pictures yet.

On Calle de la Luna:

There are 2 nice structures just west of Bagby's place. I don't know details

Slemmers have fully retired, and plan to get going on their place, but had to leave due to family illness. However they have done some work on their properties and have big plans.

Breslen's house is completed on the outside, they may make their permanent move at the beginning of the new year, although Jean can't retire yet.

Thompson/Cecotti have named their enterprise S&L Rentals. Kevin and Melody Smith have settled in for a few years till their home is built. Sam Pawls has now built a roof over his motorhome and then built one over the 5thWheel.

On Calle del Mar

A lot of work has been done on that road going down to the beach. However Sal put up a lot of signs of privacy for this camp to discourage unwanted traffic on holidays etc. Most residents are adhering to traffic STOP signs and speed bumps to slow things down in this congested residential area.

Bod Shrader has developed a large piece of property on the south side (opposite Miguel's house). He built a retaining wall and a huge set of steps (like the pyramids )coming back down to ground level. You have to see it to believe it. However, I hear rumors now that he may sell the whole thing?

Salvador's own house is really coming along. It is also on the south side of Called del Mar, encroaching on Porter's property (formerly Wendt's). Although his money doesn't come in fast enough to keep going he is progressing and may get done the first of the year.

On the Waterfront

Don and Judy Maurice have fully settled in. Their home is beautiful, right on the waterfront. They seem very happy.

Out on Camino Real:

South Side:

The spec house almost opposite Bert Streppels, being built by Bob Shrader is all but finished.

And just east of him (towards the water) Salvador is working on a storage shed for one of his family. I don't know the details yet.

Sal reported that all of the properties between the spec house and Juan Tapia's (Hammontre's trailer) have been spoken for. I managed to wiggle my name onto the one just west of Camino Viejo, but Sal says he is not selling any more on the south side of Camino Real side for now.

North side

Cory Dudley's place, on the east side of Camino Viejo is becoming a masterpiece. His birds are also multiplying.

Just west of Camino Viejo Salvador Jr has set up a trailer and is developing that property. I think there might be one space between his and Lupe's mobile home, which is slowly being developed.

Moving further west (towards the highway) I show the name of Kelley on a large complex of 6 spaces. No further information.

There is no further development at Jesus and Martha's place, nor at Rogers. I don't know the name of that road.

And at the highway, where there was a large fenced enclosure for someone in construction, it seems he had to skip town in a hurry. So that place is back in Sal's hands and a pretty empty lot now. I wish it was further down into the Camp so that we could ask Sal to use it as a Public Works lot, and keep ALL of his equipment in there.

I'm sure I've missed some at this round. Please jog my memory, or ask questions.
My e-mail is shirleyt@sanfelipe.com.mx

I'm sorry to say, Sharon Winett passed away. Richard now is offering the property between Calle de la Luna and Calle del Mar for sale. You may see her obituarie and others here
