Those who have passed on: we will remember you
Dan Hainey, age 61, passed away on September 1, 2008 at his home
in San Felipe, Baja California, Mexico. He is survived by his loving wife
of 30 years, Mary Hainey. Dan and Mary considered San Felipe to be paradise
and they built their dream home and retired there in 2007. Dan spent many
years in the Title business in the Inland Empire. He was born in San Bernardino,
California to Jim and Lois Hainey and was brother to Mike, Laura, John and
Jim. It is with sad hearts and fond memories that we say good-bye to our family
member and dear friend. We love you Dan.

Irene Skinner at 98 years old |
IRENE SKINNER, 100 YEARS (just a couple of weeks
shy of her birthday). She has hundreds of friends here in San Felipe, and some
around the world. Irene passed away in her home last night, surrounded by those
who cared for her and loved her. No details at this time.
Mike Deegan, a friend to many has passed away. Our sympathies
to his family.
It is with much sadness that we report
Mrs Carol Pauley passed away in
El Cento Hospital at 7:30 am May 31, 2008. Our heartfelt condolences go to
her husband Ron and her Family. Carol was an active member of Campo Ocotillo's
community and
always had a smile for anyone that was in
contact with her.
Maria Julia
Perez Lupercio de Garcia passed away Saturday, November 23, 2007. She
will lay in state in the D.I.F. Funeral Parlor tomorrow. The wake (or viewing
of the body) will last until midnight. Already, the small room is filled
with beautiful flowers from many people. Maria's
husband was the local doctor/pharmacist years ago when the closest doctor
was in Mexicali. She is survived by Linda Garcia who was our Mayor at one
time, and Teta with her husband who have built a house next to Tavo's mom's.
The funeral for Maria will be held
at 2:00 p.m. Sunday 25 November at the Catholic
Church on Mar Bermejo.
After the funeral, there will be a
procession to the graveyard, where she will be laid to rest.
Edward Albert Faloon (Ted) passed
away on March 26, 2006, after a short illness. Ted worked and travelled extensively
throughout
his professional
career. He worked in austrailia, Indonesia, Africa, Sri Lanka, India, Nepal,
the United States, British Columbia and the Yukon. He retired to San Felipe
in 1995. He was loved and will be missed by many close San Felipe friends,
as well as a large family in Canada. He leaves behind two sons, Alan and David. "May your quiet soul rest in peace. You are missed. Pat".
Vincent Bradley owner of Baja Java in San Felipe passed away on Tuesday Feb 28. Formerly Capt Bradley of the Navy Medical field, and Dr. Bradley in S California military hospitals, he has had a long and successful career. Vince and Karen moved to San Felipe and opened Baja Java in 1997. They recently began to organize a baseball league and after school program for the kids here in San Felipe. A memorial fund has been started at San Diego County Credit Union named 'San Felipe Youth Development'. Please consider supporting this legacy for Vince in lieu of flowers. Ron Smith, from Reno, Nevada, who has been with us for 2 years now, passed away suddenly of a heart attack on Sunday Feb 25. He has many friends who will gather for a small memorial on Sat 3/10 at 3:00 p.m. at his residence at Campo Ocotillo. Leticia Perez Valle of GuaGuara's Restaurant passed away suddenly of a heart attack on New Year's Ever. Many in this town knew her and will miss her most cheerful smile.
Arnold Murdock, husband of Rocky Murdock, passed away on 8/31/06. There will be no services in Olympia, where he died at his request. He had a tough time on his own and couldn't wait to be with Rocky who passed away 11/28/05. Their son Michael is planning on comming down in the near future and may have some sort of memorial for him. We will all miss our wonderful neighbors.
Patsy Kowalchuk, formerly of El Dorado Ranch,
passed away at her son's home in Hawaii. Patsy's husband, Joe Kowalchuk passed
away a while back and they both lived at the ranch for about eight years. They
were very active in the community and will be missed by many people. A memorial
for Patsy will be held in the fall.
Wendell Cutting of Campo Ocotillo passed away
at 1:40 on 6/28/06. Wayne and Larry, his very close brothers, were with him. Wendell's
Memorial Service will be held next Thursday, July 6 at Shadow Mountain Church;
2100 Greenfield Drive, El Cajon CA 92019. Visitation will be from noon
until 2:00 PM at the church. The service will be at 2:00 with reception following
in the pavilion. For those of you out of the area the RTF tribute for Wendell's
memorial service, an 8 minute slide show, is on our web site now. www.rescuetaskforce.org.
Wendell leaves a huge family - everybody he has ever met. I received a neat
note this morning reminding us that Wendell is now in Heaven setting up that
local
Rescue Task Force operation
Bill Gabbard, long time resident of San Felipe,
passed away in Yuma, Arizona after an extended illness. Bill and Kay Gabbard
were instrumental in revitalizing, suppying, educating, and obtaining many
books and libraries for the children of San Felipe. Bill cooked for the Las
Amigas, hauled tables and boxes for the Book Buddy program they started; grilled
steaks for the Rotary and helped obtain eye glasses for many kids in town.
Bill and his selfless contributions will be sorely missed by all who knew him
- Mexican,
Canadian
and American.
He
was a very special man. The mass for him will be held Monday, March 13 at 2:00
p.m. at the Corona Salon on Mar de Cortez North (curios street).
12/24//05 Francisco (Pancho) Arostegui passed
away this morning in Mexicali, Mexico. Pancho, the founder and
owner of Bar Miramar will always be remembered for his welcoming
smile and generous personality. "World Famous Shellback Tavern"
11/28/05 Rocky Murdock has left us now. She passed away in
Washington State of Pumonary Fibrosis. Those wishing to send cards may send
to '819 Harvest Dr. S.E., Tumwater, Wn. 98501. We will miss you Rocky.

11/27/05 Bob Scharff, only 57 and newly
retired, dropped dead of a heart attack. Bob and his girl-friend Sue were
in the process
of relocating to San Felipe for their new life here. He is survived by his
daughter Rose Real, her husband and their son, shown here. Our hearts
go out to them. Bob had created the Yahoo El Dorado Ranch Group. Susan has
2 sons
and
daughter-in
laws. San Felipe and especially El Dorado will miss Bob.
5/23/05 Wesley Strange died in his home under Hospice
care. Lillian and the rest of his family, as well as all of his many
friends in
San Felipe will miss Wesley very much. Cheryl writes: "We are going
to have a memorial for dad on Sunday, June 5th at 2 pm, here at our home...Our
address is 503 North 4th Ave SW, Tumwater, WA 98512-6410. Dad would
very much appreciate the sentement of obtaining phone cards for soldier's
wives whose husband's are fighting in Iraq. Mom will call the Millitary
Casuality Area Command and I will get the info passed on to thispage."
"Wesley Raymond Strange, age 85, passed away peacefully
at home surrounded by family on May 23, 2005. He is survived by his wife, Lillian;
daughters, Cheryl Strange (Jen) and Dale Duran (Julian); brother, Jim Strange;
sister, Martha Johnson (Curt); several grandchildren and great- grandchildren;
and nephews and nieces, Joey Blum and family, Gary Clintworth and family, Don
Strange and family, Val Lind and family, Bud Johnston and family, Karen Dunn
and family, Pam Minster and family, Andrea Blum, and Bessie Blum (John). He
was preceded in death by his brother, Roy Strange (Tessie), sister, Clarice
Clintworth (Dick), and nephews, Mike Strange (Laura) and Harley Clintworth
(Deb). A memorial service will be held on Sunday, June 5, 2005, at 2:00 p.m.

4/28/05 Julie Rustead passed
on in a San Diego hospital. We know of no details.
4/12/05 Sharon Winett passed away this morning
after a lengthy illness with multiple myeloma of the blood. She is now at peace
and will be remembered by her friends here in San Felipe.
12/26/04 James Sherrod passed away in a San Diego Hospital
with complications of Multiple Myloma (Bone Marrow cancer) His daughter, Melinda,
37 years old, had passed away Nov 9 in San Diego while visiting her father.
Jan also lost her dog in the same time frame. Our hearts go out to Jan. Memorial
will be in the spring.
12/7/04 - Barefoot George Carroll passed away in the night
last nite. He had developed more cancer and suffered a heart attack during
the night. He will be missed by all his friends at El Dorado Ranch.
12/4/04 - HANK THOMPSON passed on. He had suffered a long illness with
nerve pains, but in the end died of Emphasima. He died in my arms and has since
had many friends calling or dropping by. His memorial will be held at Campo
Ocotillo, Saturday 12/11 at 1:00 p.m. Background music and
hor d'oeurves along with prayers.
A memorial for Peter Wendt will be held on Wednesday, Dec. 1 at 12:30
p.m at the Ramada at Club de Pesca. Luncheon to follow.
There will be a "Celebration of Life" in his honor Saturday,
November 27, on the Ramada at Club de Pesca, from 1 - 6 p.m.
11/3/04 Bill Smith, AKA "Mr. Bill" left us Wednesday
morning after a prolonged illness, Alzheimers Disease. He was surrounded by
love, family and friends. We will miss his smile and sparkly blue eyes.
9/19/04 Henry Huey passed on at 1:00 p.m. Sunday
afternoon. We will miss his little golf cart travelling up and down the roads
in camp.
7/12/04 - Mrs. Auna V. Imwalle, Cory Dudley's mother was
90 years old. "She had been living with me since last November, she
was afflicted with Alzheimer disease. My sister Pat Lowe was here right
to the very end helping out, she will be missed"
6/28/04 - Ginger Clark passed away this morning after an
unsuccessful thyroid operation. Although they had only resided in Campo Ocotillo
this year and were building a home here, they had made many friends and will
be sorely missed. We are awaiting word of funeral services.
3/04 - Peter Wendt also passed away undexpectedly with a
heart attack. He had been under medical care for some time with a heart problem.
A memorial will be held in the Fall for Peter.
9/2/03 - Victoria (Vicky) Wendt has passed away in the hospital in
Mexicali after a long illness at her home in Campo Ocotillo, San Felipe. Many
are invited to her Memorial Ceremony at Club de Pesca on November 6, 2003 at
11 a.m.
Pancho (Francisco) Calderon - Well known in the community. President
of the Ejidos in this area. Many, many people attended his funeral on Sunday.
He will be greatly missed.
8/16/03 Dick Hagen - We have received word that Dick Hagen has passed
away in the United States - he lost his fight to cancer. A Memorial will be
held on Sunday, Oct. 5, at which time Dick's ashes will be scattered on the
Sea of Cortez. A small pot luck will follow the ceremony.
Approx. 8/14/03 Glen Galbraith - we heard that Glen, a retired boat
captain. He had a place in Club de Pesca with his wife Ruth. He died while
playing softball in the U.S.
8/11/03 Gracie Sanchez - Another very active member of our community,
Gracie Sanchez, lost her fight to cancer, and passed away in the Mexicali hospital;
viewing and funeral arrangements at her home in San Felipe. Gracie has been
a frontrunner of Las Amigas since its beginning.
8/7/03 Jack Biely - A prominent member of the community, Jack Biely,
passed away unexpectedly this morning of a heart attack. He was the first President
of San Felipe Association of Retired Persons, and has been active in many of
the other organizations around San Felipe. A Memorial will be held on Saturday
at 2:30 p.m. at the Baptist Mission - dinner will follow the ceremony at the
church. Following the ceremony Jack's ashes will be taken to Playa Club where
an Ultra Lite will scatter the ashes where Jack loved.
