November, 2008. The beloved and highly respected gentleman, ("Chuy"), Don Jesus Cástro Castañeda, owner of Campo El Vergel, km35, passed away last night after a along illness. He was one of the few men that the government selected to develop property south of San Felipe, a total waste land prior, due to the fact that they could not grow anything in all sand like the west coast of Mexico can. They struggled years due to the lack of vehicles, roads, gas, heat, lights, water, food, you can only imagine. These campos, so popular now, filled with happy residents retired and not! I'm was one of them. 24 years ago! I have no residence in the U.S.A. I moved here when there was no road, in a old truck. Now we have restaurants, bars, grocery stores, a Community Center, a Church, Fire Department, Police Station, beautifully paved roads to say nothing of the beautiful GULF OF CALIFORNIA! He had many friends all over Mexico. He will be sorely missed." Again, our condolences to the Castro family as he was June's father-in-law.
