January 2010 - Sunday. This
is an email I just received from Cesar at the Pavillion: "Kat
buenas tardes, Just wanted to let you know tomorrow morning I am having
Eddie G playing for our Sunday morning $ 5.00dll breakfast special.
Maybe you can still post this on your web site today maybe I should
have sent this to you sooner. Gracias Cesar." Better late
than never!
This
is
for the parents of the kids who want to
charter a bus to come down Memorial Day Weekend and please, if you have
any concerns, please feel free to write me and I'll answer whatever
questions I'm able to and direct you to someone who can if I can't
answer it. . "Hola, Kat. Just read your article on
parents worrying about their college kids coming to San Felipe. Dale
and I have lived here full time for over 7 1/2 years now. I have
NEVER felt unsafe in San Felipe. In fact, I often tell people that I
feel safer here than in the states. In early December we were in
Southern CA for 4 days and every single day, when we listened to the
radio in the car or watched local news, there was crime, crime and more
crime. That is not the case in San Felipe. Bobbie
(www.casalavida.com).
I
have
to
check in my email where this came from, but it's a
beautiful photo taken by a reader. "Hi Kat, You always
include such wonderful photos in your reports, and the videos of San
Felipe show the best sights. After three weeks of foggy weather
here in Sacramento, the sun finally decided to make an
appearance. The photo below was taken yesterday as the sun was
coming up. Hope you enjoy it." This is such a
beautiful shot I blew it up. I don't believe he signed his email, but
I'll double check. Click the photo to see a larger version and thank
you for sending the photo. Photo by Dan Cox of Elk
Grove, California.

I
noticed on a
google alert from the Baja Nomad site they are
talking about the upcoming rains and wind and many are concerned about
the houses on the hillsides. Guess we'll just have to wait and see what
mother nature has in store for us. I had lunch at Baja Java
yesterday with Double A and we were discussing the horrific situation
in Haiti and if any country needs help or a fund raiser, it's this
country. Karen tells me her niece was in the process of adopting a
Haitian child who is five years old from the orphanage, which had 90
children in it. They were all saved but had to sleep in the driveway
for three days. At any rate, she is going to try and get an assignment
from the Air force to go and pick up the child and what a great thing
to do. Karen is a registered nurse and Lt. Colonel in the reserves (for
20 years) and she's hoping for an assignment there. I told her to bring
one of the babies back for me! Evidently, the man who was in the
process of issuing the final travel visa for the child was killed in
the earthquake. My prayers are with you Karen!
16
January 2010 - Saturday. The
fundraiser for the Casa de Fe Orphanage is Sunday,
not Saturday. I scrolled down as I instructed you all to do and read
the paragraph which was sent to me and it says to wear your "Sunday
western best" so it must be on Sunday and tomorrow is January 17, so
change your plans accordingly. Actually, to tell you the entire story,
when I received the email about the Hoe Down, there was no date so I
wrote her back and asked if I had missed something because I'd read it
three times and couldn't find a date. Well, she wrote back and told me
it was on the reference line but not in the body of the email, which I
normally just cut and paste. So, the Hoe Down is Sunday, not Saturday.
Today beginning at about 11:00 a.m. at La Plazita (across the street
from Bancomer) Baja Nueva Art Studio is having a showing of Iron Man
Steve Sherrod's works which I'm sure you'll enjoy. He does some
incredible work with iron, from small objects to iron gates and
railings and you can taste some of their chocolate tequila. Jim Manning
tells me: "We play at La Vaquita every Friday 6-10pm...and
we will play at Baja Java (North end for Hop-A Long.. Ha..) for
Sunday Brunch 9-12pm...Its our shortened version of the Baja
Boys...Just Jim on bass and me...Good music for a Sunday ..Later...Jim."
The "north end" was a joke because Hop-a-Long prefers to cover events
in town.
This
is an early birthday wish for Hop-a-Long as
he will be 50 or 60 on Monday, January 18. Feliz
Cumpliaños Hop-a-Long! I've added a little more to Saturdays
postings, but I didn't write "update" so you might want to skim through
what you might have read yesterday.
SCORE
announced that MasterCraft Safety
signed a three year contract to co-sponsor this year's 23rd
Annual Tecate SCORE San Felipe 250. Read more here >>.
It will now be called "The MasterCraft Safety Tecate SCORE San Felipe
250" and that's quite a mouthful. The Baja 250 will be held here in San
Felipe March 12, 13 and 14 with rerunning the week before.
I
received an email from James Hatton, Mr. Html
and formerly Mr. Dictionary dot com, and it looks like we're going to
be in for some windy weather soon. It's actually very interesting, and
in some places in California, they are estimating winds from 100-200
miles per hour (you need to read the entire article) and with that may
come rain and flooding. "Currently, the strong El
Niño is reaching its peak in the Eastern Pacific, and now
finally appears to be exerting an influence on our weather."
Read more here. I would imagine that Tony will write
something on our news page or weather page as the time approaches. At
least everyone with new construction will find out if their roofs leak.
This is a photo sent to me by the Gardners, who are long time residents
of San Felipe on their trip to Gonzaga. The road looks pretty good.

Kat's Korner Gallery has 83,612 views as of
today
so thank you very much for looking at my photos. I'm going to have to
make one icon to a page where all the galleries are because they are
growing. I haven't been taking photos lately, except a few at the
benefit, but I plan on taking a few this weekend. This is a photo taken
by Lorraine Gardner of the dirt road where the motor home was passing
them, after the pavement ends on the road down to Gonzaga Bay.

Today is the swap meet at Cachanilla out at El
Dorado Ranch, which starts about 7:00 a.m. There are other events today
which I've listed below and also on Val's Schedule of Events,
which by the way, she has been sending me updates, but I have been too
busy to get them up. I have revised the page tonight so if you'll click
the Turtle on the left column, you can see it. We also remixed Natasha
James' Pod Cast and although we lost the play count, it sounds
much better so thank you Ronnie Riveria and Luis Almodovar. If you've
already listened to it, give it another listen because you'll be
surprised. Of course, Desiree and I were kind of goofy, but she
mispronounced "stupendous" and started to laugh, and it was straight
down hill from there, but it was fun. The next pod cast scheduled is
with Kenneth Whitmore, Bonnie McNair and Dr. Victor Abasolo and they
will tell you all about "A Child's Garden".
El Dorado Ranch has tennis today, however, you
must have appropriate identification proving you're a resident or a
guest of a resident. The round robin starts around 7:00 a.m. I have a
group of about 40 college kids who want to come down for Memorial Day
weekend, but some of the parents are worried about their safety. I
would really appreciate it if you would take the time to write me a
short (or long) note about your experiences and whether or not you feel
these kids will be safe. As you know, we did a series of interviews for
You Tube videos regarding safety in San Felipe last year and we may do
a few more, but written testimonials would be great. We, as a
community, need to work together to get our tourists back in San Felipe
and let the world know that San Felipe is a safe place to come to.
These kids want to charter a bus and come down here and it may help
with getting a Spring Break crowd down for a week.
I posted a thank you yesterday regarding
donations by what I thought was the Playa de Oro Homeowners
Association, however, after receiving an email today asking about who
made the donations, it prompted me to ask our secretary, Uria Amor, if
I heard it correctly at the last food bank meeting. So, here's the
scoop. Evidently there are two groups out there and it was the Playa
de Oro Neighbors Association AC who made the donations. Mark
will be out at the swap meet tomorrow morning, so if you have donations
of food or money, please stop by. He's located next to the Lions' Paws
truck.
This is a thank you note I received from the
Illustrated Lady to everyone: "Good morning Kat....you may
put this on the Korner for me please. I just want to send you my heart
felt thank you's which doesn't even begin to cover how I feel at the
outpouring of caring and love from the people of San Felipe at this low
time in my life...The fundraiser I hear was tremendous, thank you all
for your support ...I can't put into words exactly how I feel; my heart
is so full.....we will get through this .....I've done nothing wrong, I
have always told people to be aware of Mexican Law, which I have always
respected - well oooopppssss - I goofed myself and didn't
get all the t's crossed and i's dotted.....but it will be corrected
.....I'm hanging in here. Some days are just better than others, thanks
to all who have expressed concern over my heart condition thanks to God
and Dr. Abasolo that I am still alive...be seeing you all
soon....Hugs Irene - aka Illustrated Lady aka BajaGoddess."
15 January 2010 - Friday. The
Casa
de Fe Hoe Down begins at 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. on Saturday at the
site of the orphanage on the same day as the SFARP Parade of
Homes. I've written about the Hoe Down below, so you can
scroll down and get the scoop on the price, etc. The Parade of Homes
begins at the lodge at Campo Ocotillos at about 11:30
a.m. but it starts at noon. The cost is $3.00 per person and they will
have an after party with drinks and finger foods. You'll be given a map
of the homes to go and visit just in case you lose the party your with,
but you'll find out more when you get there.
If you're planning a trip to the United States
on
Monday, don't forget it's a Federal holiday (Martin Luther
King's Birthday) and all banks, post offices, state and
federal offices will be closed. This does not affect Mexico or it's
offices. Tonight you'll find fine dining at the El Cortez Hotel, El
Secreto at the Marina and George's Restaurant here on Mar de Cortez has
music and a dinner special as well as El Nido, which has been here
forever. If you've not had a quiet dinner at this steak house, give it
a try. Also, Baja Mar on the Malécon has great food as well as
La Vaquita Restaurant, which has new specials. Let's spread the wealth!

The San Felipe Newsletter is now digital so
you've probably received it in color for the first time. It looks very
nice. They are having live music at La Vaquita tonight as well as
Jollymon and George's Restaurant. More in a Mexican minute. I received
this "thank you" from Heather Penrod on behalf of the Illustrated Lady:
"BLUES FOR TATTOOS - A HEARTWARMING SUCCESS - San Felipe
made me very proud at the benefit for Irene Smith. The town really
stepped up to the plate to help one of our most colorful characters.
This event was put together in a very short & crazy week but all it
took was a couple of phone calls and the ball was rolling. I want to
thank Rick Rudd, Sam & Diane Grubb and Rebecca & Jim Mann for
jumping on the band wagon immediately with phone calls & e-mails
flying. Then Denny & Sandy Flannigan called & said let's do a
benefit and that was off & running too. All it took was a few phone
calls and the locals were in. VATOS LOCOS with the help of Denny
Flannigan, The 2AM Band & The Baja Boys did not hesitate when asked
to become involved, "What, a local woman in need?Ó count us in
was all I heard. One quick meeting with the manager of La Vaquita,
Sergio Leon (my new hero) & we had the perfect venue and a
percentage of the sales, no questions asked. I can not possibly thank
everyone by name but please know that you all have Lisa's, Irene's and
my undying gratitude. I would like to thank Rebecca Mann & Lisa
Shackelford (Irene's daughter) for working the door for the entire
event. You girls were awesome. My heartfelt thanks to Sam & Diane
Grubb, 2 people you definitely want on your side no matter what. Thanks
also goes to Denny & Sandy Flannigan for taking care of the
printing & distribution of the flyers & posters. Sergio Leon at
La Vaquita for stopping whatever he was doing on the day of the event
to get me whatever I needed and thanks to Mexico Living and Kat's
Korner for helping spread the word. I expected the people who know
& love Irene to be ready & willing to help but what really
touched my heart were the out-of-towners & people who did not know
her that just heard about a woman in trouble and wanted to help by
making a donation. For instance, the day of the event I met a group of
people from Argentina who came to La Vaquita for lunch. They had no
idea what was happening. When they questioned me & I gave them a
short explanation they said they were really amazed at the sense of
community they saw & immediately went to the table and made a
donation. In closing, I want to thank the weather Gods for providing us
with the perfect sunshiny day and the town of San Felipe for making me
proud I call this home. Sincerely, Heather Penrod."
14 January 2010 - Thursday. We
had quite the wind storm last night; it was short and sweet and only
lasted about an hour but it still amazes me how quickly the wind comes
up in San Felipe. I wrote earlier that the Fandango Bar had sold and I
have been told by Victor Rodriguez Ratliff that no, it did not sell,
however, it is for sale. Victor was at the benefit for the Illustrated
Lady as were many people and it was held out on the back patio of La
Vaquita Restaurant. Denny Flannigan MC'd the event as well as
performing with Vatos Locos and they sounded pretty good together. I am
uploading the photos to "LaGataLoca's Apple Web Me Album"
right now. You may click the logo to the left for see them here
>>.

Denny played keyboard this afternoon
and he and
Sandi, who live at Playa de Oro, are pictured below. On behalf of the
Food Bank San Felipe I would like to thank the PDO Homeowner's
Association for their generous donation to the food bank. Sandi is a
member of the homeowners' Association and they actually made two
donations, so thank you very much and your donations will feed more
than a few families. Also, a woman from the south beaches, who wishes
to remain unnamed, bought about $200 worth of food here in town and
she's going to do this once a month.

Luis Almodovar and Ronnie Rivera are
working
together to remix the latest pod cast with Natasha James so if it
sounds different than it did today, that's why. It should be finished
this afternoon. There was a bit of an echo in my voice and the songs
which were played needed to be compressed more (I have no idea what
that means, but it sounds like I do). Sergio Cuevas and his fiancee',
Evelyn will be getting married in February and he's very excited about
it. It was kind of funny; as I was leaving there this afternoon, Sergio
and I were talking on the steps and his girlfriend drove by, so we
pretended like we were just caught hugging. We thought it was funny,
but I left before Evelyn came into the restaurant so we'll see if she
thought it was funny. Felicidades to you both and I'll see you at the
wedding!

Diane and Sam Grubb
were both at
the benefit and Diane told me she dressed as Irene would have, had she
been present. She hit the nail on the head because it looks exactly
like something the Illustrated Lady would wear and the hair is pretty
close too. Diane and Sam make such a cute couple; it was nice to see
them out together. Diane is allergic to smoke, so I understand she opts
to stay home. At any rate, they have been spearheading the drive for
Irene as well as Heather Penrod.

Dan and Audrey Cauffman
were
also at the benefit and this little tid bit is very cool. Audrey has a
daughter in New York City who reads Kat's Korner and not because Audrey
told her about it. She found Kat's Korner on her own and reads it
daily. I believe her name is Carrie but I didn't write it down in my
new "Brenda Star" notebook. So, if your name is Carrie, thanks for
reading my Korner and stay warm! If I got your name wrong, please drop
me a line and let me know. I've never been to New York, but I will one
day.

Tonight is Name that Tune
with
Denny Flannigan at the Jollymon. I'm afraid I'm going to have to miss
it this week, as I have a previous engagement which really isn't an
engagement. It's more like an appointment I have to keep. I forgot to
mention that Cowboy Hat Karen was also at the benefit, looking as
beautiful as ever. Tavo, Al, Rita, Amapola are a few in this photo that
Victor took and when he sends me photos that he's taken with me in it,
he always writes a smart ass remark, but it's always funny. Southbeach
Karen and Dan were also present and you may see the photos of everyone
else who was there in the gallery. Remember when I asked about the tall
mug which was left at the Net for me? It actually was a gift from
Southbeach Karen and it says "Queen of Everything". Thank you SB Karen
- I really do like it and even though I'm only Miss Snowbirds for one
year, I will have that mug forever. This is the remark Victor wrote
regarding this photo and I owe you one bud! "I AM A DIVA PEOPLE OF SAN
FELIPE ENJOY ME".

I received three emails regarding the
road down
south, past Puertecitos One person said it wasn't that good and two
others said it was excellent. "Hi Kat, . . . it was a beautiful
day. Picture attached was taken just before new years and road is
better than any section north to the border. Take care, Tom Volk."
The Gardners also just returned and Lorraine is bringing in some great
photos she took on the way there and back. Photo by Tom Volk. It looks
pretty good to me and I've been by there on the Jose Andrés, but
I haven't driven it yet.

13 January 2010 - Wednesday. Well,
I have to be honest, it's actually 11:56 p.m., but it's so close to
hump day, I thought I'd cheat a little and get ahead of the game. The
weather has been absolutely beautiful and I'm so happy to be home. It's
sad that there are so little tourists, through no fault of our own I
might add. I have a couple of announcements I received today, but I'm
still chuckling over the email I received from a woman who said "they
certainly seem to be doing fundraising a lot"" and I suppose in leaner
times, we all have to help each other. So, if you haven't paid your
bill at the Net, feel free to help me out. Also, I realize that's tacky
but I just want to start the new year out with a clean slate, new digs
and of course, a new name. So here's the real announcement:
"Please come to the Cowboy
Ho Down fundraiser for
the San Felipe Orphanage at the Ejido. They are almost completed
the building that will house the girls and expect to open by
springtime. This fundraiser is for making sure that there will be food
at the table once the doors are opened. It is easy for everyone
to contribute to this worthy cause while having some great fun, good
food and the weather will most like hold nicely. Door prize and
raffles. The Ho Down will serve 'Best' Chili in town, Corn Bread, huge
hot dogs, cobbler, tea or coffee. There will be music, and line
dance competition. Please come in your Sunday Western attire (if
you have a pair of jeans, boots) and plan on dancing, eating, signing,
helping the San Felipe Casa de FE Orphanage to open its doors to these
kids in need. Tickets available at multiple location at $20/person.
Let me know if I can deliver some tickets. Please the
cause. Thank you, Gardenia Kimmey 686 945-4604" and it's
on January 17, 2010.
Also, don't forget about The
Taste of
San Felipe which is Tuesday, January 19 from 1:00 to 3:30 p.m.
The cost is $15.00 or 200 MN. It's sponsored by the Rotary Club of San
Felipe and this is the seventh annual. Tickets may be purchased at
People's Gallery; at the swap meet at Cachanilla or from any Rotary
member.
If you know anyone who wants to rent a
two story
house on the beach for race week, let me know. It's got a garage and
it's own boat ramp and is in a gated community. Two kitchens a deck and
patio and a great beach. Sleeps ten easily with a futon. Very secure.
Someone wrote and asked about the road
down south
so my friend Tavo called his friend who just came back and the road
south is paved very nicely all the way to El Huerfanito and then the
dirt road for about twenty miles is not that bad. Looks like it's
moving right along. If you have made the trek recently, I would
appreciate a little report and a photo or two or three. Not that I
don't believe Tavo's friend, I just want more scoop.
12 January 2010 - Tuesday. Good
news for El Dorado Ranch. The Palapa Bar and Grill is
back under El Dorado management and what they have for you this week is
any breakfast is 20% off on Mondays, Thursdays and Fridays from 9:00
a.m. to 11:00 a.m. and for lunch 20% off on Mondays, Thursdays and
Fridays from 1:00pm to 3:00 p.m. I'll let you know when I find out
about Juanito's Cantina. Tonight the Singout Sisters and Chuy are doing
Karaoke at the Jollymon and at 4:00 p.m. is the food bank meeting at
the new El Capitan Restaurant. More later in the day. It's so good to
be home in sunny weather! I've added some photos below of the birthday
party given by Jorge Rodriguez and I was wrong about how long he's been
doing this. The first three years, he drove around and gave them away
and the last two years, they've gotten sponsors to help with the costs,
so he's actually been giving back for five years. What a great kid!

11 January 2010 - Monday. How
wonderful it is to be home in beautiful San Felipe. I drove down from
El Centro after getting some dog food and duty free smokes. My car was
in great shape, except for the dirt but free is free and if it were at
the lot in San Diego, I'm sure it's at least $10 per day. It was a
breeze going through the Garita and not that I'm promoting cigarrette
smoking, but if your are unlucky enough to have the addiction to
nicotine, as I, the Duty Free on the corner as you're coming across
into Mexico, you can buy three cartons of Sheriff smokes for $22.00.
They come in handy when you run out. The road down was pretty good; as
the sun began to set, more cars and big trucks were coming towards me
and it got a little hairy at times. Watch your speed around the curves,
especially at night, because it's hard to distinguish how big the rig
is that's coming towards you. I almost bought the big baja in the sky
coming around the curve nicknamed "dead man's cure" (where all the
crosses are) because I was going a little too fast and the semi was a
bit on my side where there is no shoulder except for the mountain, so
the bottom line is - don't speed and try not to drive at night. The
road is coming so far past the military check point makes it more
important you drive during the day if possible. There are many places
where it's very hard to see where the road goes. Keep in mind, I have
night blindness. Photo by VRR.

My fall to save this stupid laptop has
proved to
be quite uncomfortable, especially the bony right side. If I had more
padding, I would not have hit the bone so hard on the cement. I did
answer a few phone calls and spent a lot of time on email and a couple
of visitors, and I went outside a few times, but for the most part I
slept until noon and I've been in bed since with this laptop on my lap.
Baja Jimmy, who on my las test pod cast with Natasha James
>>
(and Desiree Danielle
Blair, my daughter) has closed his doors at the Fandango. I said to go
to Fandango's for Baja Jimmy's cheese burgers and it seems he's moved
out since I've been gone. He brought over beef stroganoff and garlic
bread. He'll be doing catering only so if you want a party catered (you
buy the food and booze) and he cooks it and plays bartender. His charge
is way too low, so I hope he raises it to $20 per hour, but he tells me
$15. I don't know if that means he cleans up the mess or not, you'll
have to ask him. We were laughing that it's kind of bad luck to get
"Best Of" as most of the winners close down. It may be one of those
"you had to be there" jokes. I guess congrats are to go to Denny
Flannigan as he was voted best entertainer, which he is. I personally
have never voted, but if I did, I would have voted for him. I already
know I'm wonderful, so I don't need an award; besides, there is no
category for me. I am just so happy to be back home. Tavo stopped by
tonight before band practice and he tells me they will be at La Vaquita
here in the hood on Saturday nights so that's cool they stayed in town
and in the hood. He told Hop-a-Long and me some great jokes and we had
some good laughs. I can't believe how nice this weather is. I looked
like someone from the Ozarks when I got off the plane with a wool, long
coat and long boots.

While
I was gone someone dropped off a bag with a
great cup that says "Queen of Everything" and no card, but whomever
did, I really love it and thank you. Also, my buddy Walt Sonneberg and
his wife Lisa, are here finally from Wisconsin and he brought a huge
tray of all kinds of homemade cookies so I'm going to have a sugar
hangover tomorrow because I've eaten ha lf of them. Thank you Lisa for
making them and thank you to Walt for thinking of me. While I was gone,
George Rodriquez, who for the third year, was spending his 14th
birthday giving away gifts in a party give away that started out as a
young kid with a big heart saying he wanted to give something to the
poor kids as his birthday present. It's now grown into a $10,000 gift
give away and luncheon party for the underprivileged. Hop-a-Long talked
to him and said he was very polite and sincere and he was impressed. At
any rate, Victor Rodriguez Ratliff also sent some photos, which I'm
putting together and there were about 750 to 800 people there,
depending on how many hot dogs each person ate. It's a very nice thing
for a 14 year old kid to do so kudos to Jorge Rodriguez Jr. (I think)
and I'll get the photos up pronto. Photo by Hop-a-Long.

I
just realized that I am "out of touch" a bit
except for gossip and it feels a bit foreign. Just give me a couple of
days to get back into the stream of things and I'll be getting the
scoop on what's going on. There's a building dispute involving
one of the developments (against the builder, not the development) and
a builder is in jail. The Illustrated Lady is in the Abasolo
Medical Clinic annex of the jail and they are having a fund raiser for
her on Wednesday at La Vaquita with three bands to help her with her
legal fees and related costs. I know nothing more about the matter
other than she is being held until the bail is met. If you want to buy
a dune buggy, she has one for sale. Photo by VRR.

10
January 2010 - Sunday. I'm
sitting at LAX waiting for my flight and while sitting outside on those
rounded benches, I slipped off and in order to save my laptop, I took
the full brunt on my right buttocks. It is so sore. I thought I'd share
that with you because it took me two hours (almost) to get on
T-Mobile's wireless. Gotta run - on my way to El Centro. Home sweet
home.
It's
5:07 a.m. and I'm showered and ready to go
out the door to make the freeway trek to the airport. I had planned to
post last night, but the best laid plans and all. Please click the
black bar above which says Kat's Korner Weekly Pod cast and listen to
our first one for 2010 with Natasha James. It's pretty good and my
daughter is on it with me for a bit. Gotta run. It's now 5:22 a.m. and
I can't miss this flight. See you around town this evening.
The
Las Amigas fashion show photos are posted on
the LaGataLoca's Gallery as well as the photos from New Years Eve and
Christmas parties. I'm rather glad I missed my modeling day, as our
beautiful Margarit would have shown me up. ChocoBob is pictured behind
of Baja Chocolate Lovers. You can find those here >>.

At
the Latin Garden Restaurant,
Sunday January 10, 2010. Sunday Super Seven.$7 Chef Plate(chicken and
shrimp kabobs).$7 Chicken Cesar Salad. $7 Peel and eat Shrimp. Happy
hour 4-10 pm $1 Beer.686-209-6369. If you'll listen to the latest pod
cast, you will also hear about "S" day.
From
Denny Flannigan: "This
Wednesday, we are having a big fund raiser for Irene at La Vaquita
starting at 1 pm. Tickets are 5.00 and go to her defense fund.
Beer is $1.50 and 50 cents goes to the fund. Bar-B.Q. 7.50
and 1.50 goes to Irene. The 2 AM, Vatos Locos and the Baja Boys
are all playing. I am MCing the event and sitting in playing with
Vatos Locos. We had our first rehearsal last night and it
sounded pretty awesome.. They do practice 2 times a week for three
hours a crack rain or shine so they are really tight. I had a
great time at our first rehearsal. Anyway, it should be a fun day and
we'll raise as much money as possible. Mexican jails are not on
the Puerta Vallarta Riviera from what we hear."
And
