Mixed reviews on the new Backstreet Restaurant - however, it's their first weekend open and we should give it another try if the service was slow or the steak was tough (as reported by some one who ate there - $18.00 for a Rib eye - six couples). Just a suggestion to restaurant owners in this town. When the economy is down, don't raise your prices. Drop them a bit because a full house is better than no one at all. Photo by Victor R. Ratliff.
The El Cortez Restaurant still has their $10 Wednesday night "filet mignon" dinner, which includes a complimentary Margarita and desert. You can't beat that price. Ceasar (former owner of the New Green House and across from what used to be the Tattoo Rose Cafe) has a new fruit stand. He'll squeeze or juice whatever you like. He also still has the breakfast special for $2.75 (although, the cook could learn how to cook hash browns a little better!). A friend went to the new Italian Restaurant on the main drag and there was no air conditioning, so he walked out. However, I have to say that I've heard very good reviews of the food there and quite possibly, they will have it installed or fixed, whatever the case may be. Sorry, I don't have the name of the restaurant, but it's past the arches coming into town, on the left hand side of the street.
ZAPP is holding its second June Spay/Neuter Clinic this Saturday, June 21 from 8-4 p.m. in town at the Conalep School on Manzanillo. Contact Marie or Steven for directions. It's just off of Mar Caribe, down the street from the nursery, a couple of blocks from the SFAR Segunda. We would like to schedule volunteers from 8-1 p.mm and 1:00-5 p.m. If you've never volunteered before, you're invited. Many Clinic supporters are gone for the summer, and some new faces would really be welcome, but PLEASE LET US KNOW VIA EMAIL so we can add you to our list for this Saturday. We are also looking for stray and indigent dogs and cats for surgery, so if you cannot volunteer, maybe you can provide us with animal(s). These dogs and cats must be local street, beach or camp dogs and cats, or any you might be fostering or feeding. Please email or call to get them on the list. 577-2708. There is no charge for surgery, however, donations are appreciated. Beverages will be provided throughout the day, and we are totally air conditioned. You can call Steven at 577-2708 or stop by the Segunda and see Marie. 13 June 2008 - Friday. I meant to post earlier today, but I was busy at the Net and then went for a hot stone, deep/Swedish/reflexology massage with a little bit of aroma therapy at the "Casa Marina Spa" located in the San Felipe Marina Resort. I'll tell you more about it, but for sure, if you haven't tried it, you'll love it. In case you haven't noticed, I'm in a "Marsha Brady" frame of mind.
It was so funny (and I was laughing to myself as I was getting dressed) because Betsy Torres, Therapeutic Corporal and Gerente of the spa, (a sweet, professional woman), whispered in my ear "the massage is over; would you like to continue to sleep". I said yes, and she put a warm towel over the sheet and I sawed a few logs and probably snored so loud the entire building heard it. I do so much computer work and most all of my stress goes to my neck area. You can reach the spa from Mexico at 01-800-025-6925 ext. 377. Reservations are highly recommended and they are open 9-5 every day except Tuesday, I believe. Great gift idea (Choco Bob) because they have packages like the Paquete Marina which is 120 minutes of total relaxation of your body (I'm translating the brochure) ... full body exfoliation (body wrap - in chocolate), Swedish massage and a deluxe pedicure for mere $110 (dollars). Prices start at $35.00. By the way, my birthday is June 30! I'll post photos in the morning.
Tomorrow is the wedding of the season. Linda Garcia is The Wedding Planner and the reception which will be held by the pool overlooking the Sea of Cortez at the Marina. Should be fantastic. (Invitation only, sorry). Lola of Alicia's Beach Condos invited me so I'll go and take some photos to share. It's a Catholic ceremony first and then party, party, party! Stay tuned for more photos as soon as Kat's Gallery is up and running. Kat and Linda on the left; Juanita and Bill and of course, Dottie on the right.
Yesterday, Yo Yo Yolanda, Lupita and I drove to Mexicali for the written exam for naturalization. We both passed and are awaiting the official document from Mexico City. We had a ball on the way home, but on the way up there it was stress city, at least for YoYo and I. Photo by Robert Schrader (also known as Baja Chocolate Lovers). Bob also made us "snacks" when we got back and we waddled out to the car. This photo was taken on the back patio of Bob and Yolanda's house in Campo Ocotillos.
Afterwards, we gave each other the high five and went outside for a smoke. I found a store that sold aspirin to make my head stop pounding and then went out to eat at a Mexican restaurant called "Biks" and it was delicious. We need more authentic Mexican restaurants in San Felipe - not too fancy; just great, reasonably priced food. The Back Street Restaurant, behind the El Marinaro or Al's Back street Bar will be featuring homemade flair. Photo by Victor Rodriquez Ratlliff. This was taken the night the grand opening was cancelled. I'll get a report on the food tomorrow from my field reporter, The Illustrated Lady. She just got another one on her leg. I wonder what she'll do when she runs out of body space?
