El Dorado Ranch 1st International Tennis Tournament, 4-5 March 2009
Tennis fans and players at El Dorado Ranch recently were treated to a 2-day International Tennis Tournament. The idea, brain child of El Dorado Ranch tennis member and resident, Jack Laven, took place March 4th and 5th.
Six players from Stockton, California drove down to play with and against players from San Felipe. The first day the 6 Stocktonians played doubles matches against 6 San Felipians. This part of the tournament was to determine the “best team” this year in what is hoped to be an annual event. Team members from San Felipe were: Geoff Kelly and Stan Maier, Cory Dudley and Butch Williams, and Linda Williams and Judy Boren. They played Phil Dunn and Bryan Sullivan, John Kittock and Ben Amigable, Denise and Jack Laven. After each pair playing the opposing 3 pairs the results were—San Felipe 5 and Stockton 2. So the winner’s cup stays in San Felipe this year!

The second day was a mixed doubles tournament involving all the male players partnered with female players from San Felipe. Eighteen players played a round robin tournament where every team played all the other teams-8 matches for each doubles team. It was a great day for all-players and spectators alike. Teams were: Bryan Sullivan (Stockton) and Diane Pigeau (SF), Jack Laven (S/SF) and Diana Meyer, Cory Dudley (sub Tom Olson) (SF) and Patricia Crump (SF), Stan Meyer (SF) and Nancy Christian (SF), Geoff Kelly (SF) and Linda Williams (SF), Ben Amigable (S) and Denise Laven (S/SF), Phil Dunn (S) and Judy Boren (SF), Butch Williams (SF) and Martha Rezac (SF) and John Kittock (S) and Geertrud Mensinga (SF).
The Mixed Doubles International winners were Phil Dunn (Stockton) and Judy Boren (San Felipe) in 1st place, Diana Meyer (San Felipe) and Jack Laven (Stockton/San Felipe) came in 2nd place and 3rd place winners were Geoff Kelly and Linda Williams both from San Felipe.
A potluck was held on March 4th to further international relations. Plans are beginning for next year’s tournament. Hopefully this can expand to other international events as well.
