A picture from the UABC scientific expedition April 8,2006 on the "Tony Reyes" to catch a limited sample of totoabas

On April 7 - 10 2006 The 'Tony Reyes' sailed out to to check the status of the Totuava that the researchers from the Universidad Autonoma de Baja California in Ensenada had planted May 17, 2002. That was the 5th planting in the waters off San Felipe. They were thrilled to bring in enough young Totuava to take back to the laboratory in Ensenada for further conservationist study.

Someday, in about 8 or 9 years, these young totuava will be ready for harvesting. In the past they have been known to live for 60 years and weigh in at 300 pounds. We pray that we can again bring this species and others off the endangered species list. With everyone's co-operation, we will.
