Trip Report. As we started our annual trip with some new passengers and only the fond memoreis of others, the excitment and anticipation of what the next five days would bring was growing. As we left San Felipe on Sunday morning at about 11 amm it was beautiful and a bit windy. As we headed out for Isla Partida, we wanted to stop at Gonzaga Bay to make bait but the wind was blowing too strong. We traveled through the night. Monday: We fished Isla Pardita and Isla Raza in hte morning and Isla Salsipuedes in the afternoon. Fishing was a little slow. The jackpot went to Tom Haggod with a 23lb. yellowtail. Tuesday: We fished San Francisquito in the morning and made a move to Isla San Lorenzo in the afternoon. We fished for cabrillo and yellowtail. The cabrillo fishing was fantastic with a few good yellowtail mixed in. Th e jackpot went to Jeff Peck with a 23lb. yellowtail. Wednesday: We moved in the night to Puerto Refugio. We found small yellowtail on the surface with some real nice cabrillo. We moved to the mainland were fishing was a little slow. The jackpot went to Christopher Cornelius with a 19lb. cabrillo. Thursday: We fished Gonzaga Bay, we made a little bait and fished the outside reef where the cabrillo were wide open. All these fish were 8-20lbs. The fishing was fantastic in the morning. We made bait from our pangas and fished the same reef in the afternoon. There were 4 grouper caught 38-55 lbs. Dennis Fisher won the jackpot with a 55lb grouper. Friday: We made bait Thursday night and traveled to the Golden Reef where the wind blew and made for some tough fishing conditions. There was a commercial boat there that had set a net. Tony Jr. said this was illegal and took some pictures. Hopefully, something can be done. The jackpot went to Dennis Cole with a 65lb black sea bass. We would like to thank Tony Reyes Jr. and the crew for another successful fishing adventure. The service and food were excellent once again. We have been chartering this trip for the past 15 years and as our families have grown there have been many father/son combinations that have become tradition. This last month, we lost one of our patrirchs, Keith Forward, to cancer. He had been part of a three generation tradition for the past 8 years. He was an inspiration to us all. I'll miss you Dad, Mitch (co-charter master) Mitch Forward |
