TONY REYES FISHING TOURS
B/M TONY REYES
SAN FELIPE, BAJA MEXICO
Sunday 29 August to Friday 3 Sept, 2004
Water Temperature 86 degrees
Sorry. No pictures but here is our story from this trip..
Returning to San Felipe on 9/3/04, chartermaster Dennis and Pat Reigle reported the fishing started slow. Wide open yellowtail action was seen on Wednesday with the majority of yellowtail in the 20-25 lb. range.
Juan Rojas of Anaheim, California caught a 120 lb. grouper while fishing with his brother, Santiago. They fished with their guide, Ramon, and was fortunate to bring in the fish as they were using 40 lb. mono.
In a daring rescue at El Refugio, Isla Angel de La Guardia, Capitan Tony Reyes assisted a disabled, two masted sailing vessel. This vessel was used by government officials for research and marine ecological studies of marine life and manned by college students.
The vessel continued to pull its anchor due to a mini chubasco with winds exceeding 30 MPH. As the vessel drifted towards shore, pangas from the Tony Reyes pulled the vessel from its destructive path to the rocks until the mother ship Tony Reyes could pull anchor, get under way and finally tie up with the disabled vessel.
Tony Reyes, Jr. masterfully steered both vessels to a safer harbor. The disabled vessel was able to secure its anchorage; students and staff were saved due to the skills of Captain Reyes and staff.
We returned to San Felipe with full limits of cabrilla and yellowtail. Dorado was also caught. As customary to the area, humbolt squid showed in great numbers adding to the enjoyment of several teenagers joining their fathers on their family fishing trip.
Everyone had a great time.
