TONY REYES FISHING TOURS
B/M JOSE ANDRES
SAN FELIPE, BAJA MEXICO
Sunday July 11 to Friday July 16, 2004.
This is our story:
Sunday we left San Felipe promptly at 9 am. We found plentiful bait at Gonzaga and filled our tanks. Then we ran overnight to Cardenosa. At 7:30 we started fishing. The yellowtail and cabrilla fishing was first rate with 140 keepers.
That afternoon we traveled to San Francisquito. A Pacific storm brought stiff winds. The fishing was slow with a few yellows scratched up. Squid were everywhere and made making bait impossible.
Overnight we ran to Animas Bay for bait. The next morning we returned to Cardenosa where we found both good fishing and windy conditions.
That afternoon we traveled the east side of La Guardia to Refugio. We failed to make bait and scratched in the AM. We traveled to Gonzaga Bay where we made bait in broad daylight. The bait brought us quality fishing for cabrilla and pargo. We stayed the night and fished the Enchanted Islands for a good number of high quality cabrilla.
Jackpot First Place was Gary Johnson of Vista. Dan Seedon of Glendora took Second. Third was Phil LaGrand of Cypress.
The crew was highly professional. Captain Alfonso handled the vessel with skill through difficult weather. Sergio and Raul produced first class food in the galley.
Sadly some regulars didn’t make the annual trip. Most missed was Johnny Judice, a veteran of 30 trips, who passed away in April 2004.
