Tony Reyes' Fishing Report
October 5 - October 10, 2003

Day 1: We left San Felipe at 10:00 AM Oct. 5 with calm seas and great weather. Had a great time on ride south. We met Tony and his crew and had a great group of fishermen and women from southern California. On the ride down we spoke with J. B. from the Longfin Tackle who ran the trip and brought us down some tackle that we could not find in Michigan. Tom and J. B. were very helpful on the phone from the Longfin as we had a lot of questions before leaving. That night we made bait in about 15 to 20 minutes.

Day 2: We started fishing at first light after a great breakfast. A lot of yellowtail, cabrilla and pargo with numerous spotted bay bass and triggers. Some of the other boats tied into a couple of Dorado on fly lines. We came in for lunch and moved to Salsipuedes Island for our afternoon fishing. The catch was the same as the morning. That night we made bait with no problem in a beautiful warm rain.

Day 3: Wide open yellowtail action. Lots of cabrilla, our boat caught 42 yellowtail and a 79 lbs. Black sea bass and numerous other fish. Again, all meals and service was top notch, along with TonyÕs first class guides. We had light rain in morning but very calm seas. Making bait was slow but enough for the morning fish.

Day 4: Went back to yellowtail alley in morning. Light rain again with yellowtail on almost every drop. Live bait and iron, both worked well. Two more dorado came in and numerous other fish. One black bass caught after breaking off 100 lb. Test. Bait was tough to come by at night. Weather calm.

Day 5: Fished the little bit of live bait we had on fly lines for cabrilla in morning and trolled in afternoon for sierra. Had no luck making bait but caught a lot of sierras at night aboard the Jose Andres. Light rain in morning and night but calm seas, and beautiful weather during the day.

Day 6: Fishing quite slow with no live bait but one panga came in with 11 cabrilla, 6 big ones caught on mirror lures at the Enchanted Islands

Coming here from Michigan and not knowing what to expect became a pleasant surprise. The fishing was better than could be expected. The food alone made me want to stay. The guides and crew were always happy and pleasant.

A special thanks to Tony Jr. and J.B. (from the Longfin Tackle). Tony runs a great trip and J.B. put the whole thing together between Captain, crew, guides, and fishermen. "Thanks for everything. See you next year."
