Tony Reyes' Fishing Report May 18 - May 23, 2003
SUNDAY - We departed San Felipe Approx 11:00 a.m. under perfect
weather conditions. Our group consisted of several combinations of
Fathers and Sons and veteran fishermen from So. California, Texas and
Colorado. We assembled our gear with anticipation of another wonderful
fishing adventure.
MONDAY - We awoke to a beautifyul sunrise at San Bernabe
Reef. We fished for Yellowtail, Cabrilla and Spotted Bass. Fishing was a
little slow, so we headed to Sal Sipuedes Isla. Around 12:00 noon,
fishing was better with the Jackpot going to Jeremy Campbell with a 22
lb 11 oz yellowtail. Jeremy landed his fish on a green and white tady 45
light. The day was capped off with outstanding chile rellenos prepared
by Antonio and Raul.
TUESDAY - During the night we moved to San Francisquito and
fished for yellowtail, chasing birds and being fairly successfull. We
moved to San Lorenzo in the afternoon and fished for yellowtail and
cabrillo. Today's jackpot went to Eric Campbell with a 30 lb 6 oz
yellowtail. Eric caught his fish on a white tady 45 light. Blue and
White along with chrome seemed to work well.
WEDNESDAY - We moved during the night to the south end of La
Guardia. Skies were clear, seas flat, with temperatures in the low to
mid 80"s Surface water temp was 70 degrees. We chased schools of boiling
yellowtail with mild success. The jackpot went to Paul Lucas with a
yellowtail weighing in at 22 lbs 2 oz caught on a silver mega bait. The
wind came up in the afternoon making for difficult conditions.
THURSDAY - The wind was blowing at Asamblea La Costa in the
morning. But we were able to catch yellowtail in the 15 lb class on the
bottom. We were dropping Salas GX Jr. blue and white chrome and green
and yellow. Windy conditions continued as we moved to Ensenada Grande.
Leo Campbell claimed the jackpot with a 10 lb 8 oz cabrilla with a blue
and White Salas DX.
FRIDAY - On our final day we found good weather at the Golden
Reef. This by far was our best day of fishing. We chased continuous
schools of yellowtail, trolled with mirror lures (pink, Purple), caught
spotted bass on the bottom with cut squid caught two nights
prior.Today's jackpot went to Eric Campbell with a 35 lb 5 oz Grouper.
Several were hooked and lost. Bait was no where to be found.
A sincere thank you to Tony Jr. and the entire crew for another
wonderfull experience. See you next year.
