Tony Reyes' Fishing Report June 22 - June 27, 2003
MONDAY: After making bait, fished south end of Island La
Guardia. 31 pound Yellowtail taken on a jig by Chris Demond. Narrowly won
this day's jackpot. Fishing was good and promised better with live bait,
but not yed W.F.D.
TUESDAY: At Francisquito Bay, Michael Mikhail was tops with a
60 pound white sea bass. Fishing was excellent, with many white sea bass over
40 pound and yellowtail for all, over 30 pound mostly on action lures.
WEDNESDAY: Morning at Francisquito: fishing was again
excellent. Bob Griffin best with a 68 pound white sea bass. Yellowtail
fishing also excellent. Many fish taken at and beyond 30 pound .
THURSDAY: Cabrilla fishing at La Guardia was wide open. Fish
taken on mackeral and small action lures. Some grouper taken on live
bait dropper loops.
FRIDAY: Fishing the golden reef, a good variety of species
was taken including a 61 pound black sea bass, several pargo, a solo dorado,
and cabrilla taken on live bait, fresh dead squid and jigs.
TRIP SUMMARY: After a windy first night, the best fishing in
recent years - according to San Felipe Regulars - prevailed in still to
moderate winds on glassy to calm seas; offering a wide variety of
quality fishing. Baja veterans and newcomers alike, without exception,
all enjoyed the combination of cooler weather, mild seas, great fishing
with experienced, considerate guides, three great meals daily prepared
by a very capable and attentive kitchen staff, and an efficient crew
running a great boat. The tradition of excellent Middle Island fishing
is alive and well on the B/M Jose Andres.
