Tony Reyes' Fishing Report August 17 - August 22, 2003
Sunday: We embarked from San Felipe at 10:30 with the sea a
virtual mirror. We made great time and saw porpoises and a magnificent
sunset.
Monday: We got to the south end of Isla La Guardia. We fished
jigs and got a few yellowtail, a squid, and some spotted bass. We saw a
fin whale. On our trip to El Morro Blanco we encountered some heavy SE
wind with a chubasco bringing lightning and a brief driving rain. We had
a great bait haul in the night.
Tuesday: Fishing with live bait off of San Francisquito we
did very well on the yellowtail, dorado, spotted bass and some cabrilla.
We had more tranquil seas; excellent for kayaks and swimmers. Another
killer sunset and more great comida.
Wednesday: We moved to San Lorenzo Reef for our morning
session and did well on yellowtail and spotted bass, but dorado was the
big bag today. Lots of great acrobatics and energetic runs. We moved to
La Praza and we had a great time snorkeling, kayaking, and trolling
lures. Another postcard quality sunset in the Sea of Cortez.
Thursday: After a quick breakfast we enjoyed a nice sunrise
from the pangas along the coast from La Asamble to Ensenada Grande. We
did very well with nice pargo, cabrilla, bass, some dorado and a few
yellowtail. During lunch we moved to San Francisquito Norte and had a
great time kayaking and snorkeling along the shoals. We found an
abundance of rock scallops which we enjoyed with a feast of sushi on the
stern deck. What a glorious evening. (pude viva..I could live)
Friday: The sunrise today was truly miraculous. Our first
drops proved that there are large grouper at the Enchanted Isles. Many
lines broke on the first strike. The 100 pound test was no match. We managed
to keep a few nice groupers and released the small ones. We got nice
barred pargos, and frantically exciting trigger fish bites. So much
action for a small fish. Our trip home was very smooth and we made great
time.
We all thank the entire crew from Captain Tony to the excellent
kitchen crew, Ernesto and Raul, the deck hands, (yo no say el nombres -
don't know their names), and the very knowledgeable and skilled
pangueros. Muchas Gracias Y haste luegos muchachos. We will see you next
time!
