The Net is a nonprofit organization dedicated to bringingtechnological information, educational opportunities and communityrecognition to the San Felipe area of Baja California. We offer a full range of services for members, non-members (visitors) and commercial accounts.

Membership fees are priced for the convenience of our part-time and year-round residents and visitors:
12 months: $38.50
6 months: $27.50
2 months onsite laptop connection: $16.50
1 month onsite laptop connection: $12.00

Visitors or walk-in customers can also send, receive or check theiremail accounts for special rates.

Wireless hotspot service is available in the neighborhood ofour office. However, we strongly recommend that you come into our office and use a hardwire cable (ethernet) and also you can use our electric power for your laptop. There have been confirmed cases of wireless hacking into clients computers because of incorrect configuration of Windows systems. We do not want you to lose valuable banking and email files to hackers!

Ethernet connections are available in the office. Any recentApple Macintosh laptop will connect easily when plugged into ournetwork. Modern Windows systems are also easily connected and we can help you if you are using Windows 98.

Dial-in internet and email service is available for memberswith landline telephones in San Felipe. Landline connections aregenerally quite reliable but slow. As you look around San Felipe you willnotice that the telephone cables are frequently strung on poles rightnext to the power lines (sometimes even touching them). This often meansthat there will be some level of noise on your phone line and thisrestricts the connection speed that the modems can reliably maintain. The majority of customers are happy to get 28-33 kb/s, but weare in San Felipe and time is not that important. We show you how to setup your computer so that you can collect your mail, or download yourfavorite web pages while you go and put on the coffee pot. People whoare in the wireless telephone system that covers the area north of LosArcos, including all of El Dorado Ranch, will experience somefrustration. You are on this system if your telephone exchange number is576. This wireless system is generally overloaded and maintaining aconnection for extended periods can be difficult. Telnor is workingslowly to correct these problems (November 2006).

In addition to the membership fee, monthly dial-in service costs$18.00 for access time. We ask dial-in service users topay two months in advance. Your monthly bill will be sent to you online.If you do not use the dial-in service during the month, you will not bebilled for that month. Also, special billing arrangements can be madefor extended vacations, over one month.

Training at The Net: We schedule free computer-usage classesevery Thursday, 3 - 4 p.m., and free email classes every Friday, 3 - 4p.m when there are enough customers wanting tuition. We can also arrange for individual or group classes in other topics,such as Mac OSX, Windows 95/98/2000/XP, Microsoft Word, Excel orInternet usage.
