Our Newest Charter Boat, the TONY REYES

The Original Charter Boat, the JOSE ANDRES

SAN FELIPE - MIDRIFF ISLANDS - SEA OF CORTEZ

The area we refer to as the "Midriff" consists of many islands as well as the Baja coastline and is approximately 250 miles south of San Felipe. What this means to you is being surrounded literally by millions of fish, Being a natural migration route for Yellowtail, expect the action to be hot. You'll see why they call it "Yellowtail Alley."Be prepared for more. You'll fish all the major islands like Isla Partida, Angel de La Guardia, La Raza, Salsipuedes, Las Animas, San Lorenzo, San Esteban and San Pedro Martir. The fishing season starts in March and runs until November. Early in the season you will find Giant Black Sea Bass, White Sea Bass, Cabrilla, Giant Squid, Red Snapper, Pargo, Yellowtail and Grouper. As the season progresses through the month of November we find Dorado, Grouper over 100 pounds, Cabrilla, Pinto Bass, Roosterfish, Sailfish, Marlin, Amberjack and more Yellowtail!!!

The beautiful waters are enhanced by 80 foot Finback Whales and Bottlenose Porpoise. The "Midriff" is truly worthy of its name, "Fish trap of the Cortez." Mile long fish boils, feeding frenzies, massive Groupers capable of towing pangas and severing the heaviest monofilament, Tony has led fishermen to these "Hot Spots" for the past 36 years. When it comes to putting anglers on the fish, the divers in the middle of awesome underwater worlds, no one is more qualified than Tony Reyes and his crew.

Adventure is waiting for the fisherman who challenges the Sea of Cortez with Tony's boats. Fishing starts at sun up and ends at sun down. On those six -day trips you will get between four and one half and five days of actual fishing time. Trips depart from San Felipe on Sundays at approximately 10:00 AM. The Jose Andres will sail about 22 hours south to the fishing grounds. After anchoring in a remote bay, the pangas are lifted from deck and prepared for your fishing adventure. Three anglers and one guide per panga fish each day according to their schedule Though fishing is the order of the day, diving, beach combing and sight seeing are optional activities to enhance your trip. The Jose Andres will return to San Felipe at approximately 2:00 AM Saturday, where your catch will be packed in your ice chests for the trip home.

You will find the galley well-stocked and serving traditional Mexican dishes as well as chicken, steaks, and fresh fish. Breakfast may include eggs, bacon, ham, hot cakes, cereal, etc. At lunch you'll find sandwiches, soup, burritos, fresh ceviche and so on. Plenty of distilled water is provisioned aboard for drinking. Corona and Pacifico beer along with sodas are available for 50 cents per drink. Passengers are welcome to bring their own beverages as well. We recommend that you bring your own ice for mixing drinks.

THE JOSE ANDRES

The Jose Andres is Tony Reyes' 86-foot Flagship and has been operating since 1987. The boat features 3 heads, 2 showers, a full galley and inside staterooms along with open air bunks, which most anglers prefer. The canopy which covers the bunks and upper deck provides plenty of shade and allows you to take advantage of the fresh open air. The mother ship is equipped with radar, sonar, GPS and Loran navigational system, 3 radios. and lifesaving equipment including life rafts. The Jose Andres has a large walk-in freezer, walk-in refrigerator and an ice hold to take care of your catch. Two large live bait tanks on board provide for the storage of bait while six 22' Pangas (fishing skiffs) are equipped with a radio, bait tank, fish hold and built-in ice chest. The crew consists of a captain, engineer, two deck hands, a chef and assistant, plus 6 fishing guides for a total of 12 crew. We take a maximum of 18 fishermen on The Jose Andres.

YOUR CAPTAIN

Tony Reyes, Jr., has been fishing with his dad, Tony Reyes, Sr., since 1975. He received his captains license in l990 and has been running the "Jose Andres" as its captain since. He was a guide for four years and a deckhand for three years so he knows how and where to fish.

WHAT TO BRING

Though the weather is usually warm (even hot) and dry, early and late season trips can be cool, so plan accordingly. A few "musts" are: sun protective clothing such as light long-sleeve shirts, long pants, shorts, T-shirts, tennis shoes, wide brimmed hat, windbreaker, swimming trunks, sunglasses, sun block, Chapstick, insect repellent, flashlight, bottle opener and of course a camera with extra film or digital storage media. Do not forget to bring a sleeping bag, pillow, towels and your personal effects. Your GSM cellphone will work in some regions if you have called your service provider to activate international roaming before leaving the USA.

WHAT ELSE WILL I NEED???

All passengers must bring a passport, original or notarized birth certificate, voter registration card or notarized affidavit of citizenship. *A Tourist card "Visa" (Available at The Longfin) FREE. * Mexican Auto Insurance (Available at The Longfin or through the internet on this site).

RENTAL GEAR

Rental buckets of terminal tackle that cover all of your basic needs, as well as rods and reels are available at The Longfin Tackle Store. Our rental equipment is perfect for that 1st time Baja angler. We offer packages as well as individual rentals at very reasonable prices.

BOARDING

We ask that no one board the Jose Andres until after 2:00 PM on Saturday. This gives the crew ample time to clean and service the boat. Passengers are asked to board their gear during high tide for their safety. You can find out the high tide schedule from your chartermaster, The Longfin (714) 538-9300 or here.

PARKING

Vehicles may be parked in Tony Reyes' fenced yard, at his house, for the duration of the trip. We provide a van shuttle service to take you to and from the boat. After arriving in San Felipe, go directly to the harbor. After you have loaded your gear on board, you can follow the van to the parking area.
