VATOS LOCOS.
Local musicians Ken Pottie - drums, Mike Byrne - lead guitar, and Rick Rudd – bass guitar, bring baja’s only surf-a-billy blues band to life. All three members sing, but lead vocalist Rick Rudd’s powerful rich voice is a large part of this group’s distinctive sound. Bass guitarist Rick Rudd was born in Oklahoma and raised in southern California. He resided in Reno, Nevada for 30 years before moving to San Felipe. A professional musician since 1982 Rick brings a background of surf, jazz, blues and rock to the group. As well as music, Rick is an artist of distinction. Lead guitarist Mike Bryne, from New Jersey began playing guitar at thirteen in various blues/rock and southern/rock bands, honing his chops in the bars of New Jersey and the Pocono Resorts in Pennsylvania. Along the way he has been inspired by and has played with blues legends ‘Pinetop Perkins’ and ‘Steady-rollin’ Bob’ of the ‘Muddy Waters Band’ and an older rock band some of you may remember, ‘Vanilla Fudge’. Drummer Ken Pottie hails from British Columbia, Canada. Born in Calgary, he later moved to Vancouver. Drumming professionally for 25 years he has played everything from high school musicals to heavy metal. With this kind of versatility, he can lay down the back beat for Vatos Locos as well as the Mission San Felipe church band. A variety of international and regional influences contribute to this bands unique solid sound and tight arrangements. Residing in the beautiful community of San Felipe year round, Vatos Locos is available for private functions. Book them for your next party or get together.
