SAN MATIAS
40th Anniversary Celebration
![]() |
Little Barita De Oro managed to outrun his nearest
competitor in one of the races that afternoon. |
We drove the 50 miles to San Matias to join in on the 40th Anniversary celebrations. They had scheduled many events scheduled for the 3-day affair; For more pictures click here >>>
| Friday: Baseball & carnival |
| Saturday: Rodeo events such as bare-back horse racing, bucking the broncos, take down the bulls |
| Saturday evening: The parade with the princess in a horse and carriage, followed by dancing and the carnival |
| Sunday: The awards |
On Friday we settled into a nice little R.V. Park owned by Rosemary and Moran. We enjoyed watching the carnival set-up but all was quiet that evening. It rained off and on througout most of the day threatening to damage the whole affair.
On Saturday, the gods blessed them with a bright blue sky. We enjoyed the horse races and took some pictures. One of our best pictures (above) was of this younger fella who captured the winning spot at least 2 times. Next we moved over to the Bucking Bronco area and watched from the top of our motor-home, the bravest of the brave. We saw the bulls in a pen nearby, but could not stay for those events.
We moved on to the Canival corner. We missed the little parade around the park with the Princess of San Matias in her horse drawn carriage. But over in the Carnival area there was plenty to eat and drink and possibly 15 rides for children. Later that evening we witnessed a great band and dancing in the square. What a day.
On Sunday we had to leave, but I'm sure they gave out the awards. If I can find more information about this event in the Ensenada newspapers, I will be happy to refer the information ASAP.
