HERE COMES JUDY bopping in the door like
a fresh energetic breeze. Her vigor floods the room, her smile is contagious.
Who is this little dynamo and where does she come from? Come to think of it,
where might she be going?
Like the rest of us, she's rolled around the world a bit, starting in Chicago.
Enjoying the usual life journey full of stalls and surprises, she ended up on
the west coast, Utah, Vegas, finally San Diego. Hopped on a trolly one day and
off to Tijuana. Spent 3 days. One week later Judy Trotter was a resident of
Tijuana, Mexico. "Can't waste time at my age", she says. "You may not have any."
Judy is here in San Felipe celebrating her 61st birthday. She had heard about
our town from friends but couldn't find any free to accompany her just now.
She simply hopped a bus and came alone. One small kink in her plan, she unknowingly
chose the milk run and her 4 hour ride stretched to 7.
She's found plenty of peace since her arrival however. Has haunted the beaches
on a rented ATV, bounced up and down every sidewalk in town. San Felipe is absent
the trauma and drama of Tijuana she feels. Good place to catch up on resting.
What we find most striking about Judy is her attitude. She has lived 9 years
in Tijuana on a mountain with a million dollar view and she has no regrets.
Asked her favorite place on Baja, she responds, "Where I am".
She says the peninsula has taught her to enjoy people, a habit she never had
time for until she moved. "The locals are cool", and the tourists a trial....
"Can't stand 'em".
Five foot tall, she might weight a hundred pounds if she eats three meals today.
How does she fill her retirement days when she's home? "I open my eyes every
morning and leap."
Hoping to return to San Felipe in the spring, Judy would like to organize an
off season jazz group. "That's if God will let me and the police don't get me",
she laughs.
Where will she go from here? She stretches her arms to encompass the world.
Says she'll know where she's going as soon as she gets there. Guess that's true
for all of us.
