The San Andreas fault is NOT a single, continuous fault, but is actually a fault zone made of many segments. Movement may occur along any of the fault segments along the zone at any time. The San Andreas fault system is more than 1300 km (800 miles) long, and in some spots, is as much as 16 km (10 miles) deep.

WEATHER CLIPS FROM NOAA AND NWS
Sun 1/29/12 DRY CONDITIONS WILL CONTINUE THIS WEEK. TEMPERATURES WILL GENERALLY BE AT LEAST A FEW DEGREES ABOVE NORMAL WITH HIGHS IN THE 70S ON THE LOWER ELEVATIONS. BREEZY TO LOCALLY WINDY CONDITIONS AT TIMES ARE ANTICIPATED THURSDAY THROUGH SATURDAY.

The local weather report as we see it today,

Sunday, Jan 29, 2011 - 8:00 a.m. Riding slightly above normal the thermometer tells us it's like spring. The birds are acting a little bit 'lovy' and the plants are drinking a little more water. The forecast promises it will be like this all week, in the 70's, a bit above normal. We can expect cool winds to kick up periodically but no rain in sight. It's absolutely great for the Animal Rescue 'VIVA' shoe sale at the pavilion with the after-party at Rumors. st ....Yesterday's high was 72, low 59.

Saturday, Jan 28, 2011 - 2:00 p.m. Walking on the beach is a real chore. The wind has kicked up to about 25 mph on the waterfront, better contained on shore. Cold it is not! The temperature is riding in the 70's. The dogs loved it .8:00 a.m. Slightly choppy seas catch our eye this morning. Also, there's a brisk northern breeze out there. But at 67 degrees we're not complaining. Temperatures favor light attire through all of next week. We expect the decreasing winds to revert back to the SW by tomorrow for the San Felipe Animal Rescue, VIVA, shoe sale at the pavilion with the after-party at Rumors. st ....Yesterday's high was 74, low 59.

Thursday, Jan 26, 2011 - 8:00 a.m. What a beautiful morning. Any threat of rain has disappeared replaced by excellent sun-bathing temperatures in the high 70's through Monday. Warm breezes are from the SW. This is great for the Las Amigas Casino Day on Thursday and the VIVA shoe sale at the pavilion on Sunday with the after party at Rumors. st ....Yesterday's high was 71, low 59.

Tuesday, Jan 24, 2011 - 8:00 a.m. As usual we did not see any rain as the clouds passed over us Monday. Today we have a few clouds lingering, and a soft northern breeze. Fishing & Shrimping ought to be great Although it's cool and overcast somewhat we are not complaining as the forecast is nothing but positive for the rest of the week. This is great for the Las Amigas Casino Day on Thursday. st ....Yesterday's high was 66, low 56.

Monday, Jan 23, 2011 - 8:00 a.m. You can almost hear a pin drop it is so quiet out there. A light , almost transparent cloud cover with plenty of sun coming through to cast shadows. But still it is cold enough to send dollars to the Electric Co. We could get some showers early this afternoon, but expect it to move on quickly. Starting tomorrow we can look for our warm sun to return for the rest of the week. st ....Yesterday's high was 72, low 54.

Sunday, Jan 22, 2011- 8:00 a.m. A beautiful morning in spite of the possibility of rain by tomorrow night. We have some high clouds, more to the south of us, and a cool northern breeze but not as strong (yet) as the threat last evening. After Tuesday we can start looking for warmer temperatures heading to the end of the week....Yesterday's high was 72, low 54.

Saturday, Jan 21, 2011- 9:00 p.m. Surprisingly the wind had picked up this evening and knocked our patio chairs around. But it didn't last all that long. We headed for bed and slept easily through the night. 9:00 a.m.Rising late this morning the sky is now mostly clear but it is warm and quiet out there. Great for the first Club de Pesca-Punta Estrella 27 km beach run/walk today. We do not expect any chance of rain until after the week-end. st ...Yesterday's high was 66, low 50.

Friday, Jan 20, 2011- 11:00 a.m. The sky has dropped and we have a dense fog, so close we can't see the hills close by. However by 1:00 everytthing was clear again. 8:00 a.m.Plenty of sunshine but some clouds are starting to again accumulate in our area. Nothing like Oregon and Washington these days. It should hold good for the week-end; good news for the first Club de Pesca-Punta Estrella 27 km beach run/walk on Saturday. But they are warning of a chance of showers by monday or tuesday. Notice we are having earthquake activity. st ...Yesterday's high was 65, low 50.

Thursday, Jan 19, 2011- 8:00 a.m. Tenperatures remain low but the sun continues to shine. With only soft breezes to offset, we expect it to again warm up quickly. This should be great for the first Club de Pesca-Punta Estrella 27 km beach run/walk on Saturday. st. ...Yesterday's high was 68, low 47.

Wednesday, Jan 18, 2011- 8:00 a.m. What a beautiful red sunrise we arose to this morning. But in 20 minutes it was turning a soft blue sky, with very few cloud streaks aloft. The winds, which were from the south-west, have completely died leaving the sound of the water just slipping up and down on the bea  ch. With very low tides recently, a new, wider beachfront has grown. With warmer weather this week clamming and beach-combing are popular. What a life! st. ...Yesterday's high was 63, low 56.

Tuesday, Jan 17, 2011- 8:00 a.m. Looks like we have a wonderful forecast ahead of us this week. Clear skies, soft warm breezes, and calm waters: what more could one ask for? I expect the park will be full for the Taste of San Felipe day put on by the Rotary. st.  ...Yesterday's high was 71, low 52.

MLKing Day
Monday, Jan 16, 2011- 8:00 a.m.
We have a gradual warmer and dryer trend from West to East following the tiny period of rain yesterday. High pressure is again building across the western states. We have a 1st quarter moon with medium tides. No earth quake activity in our area. Looks like it will be a warmer, dry day Tuesday for the "Taste of San Felipe" put on by the Rotary. st ...Yesterday's high was 65, low 51.

Sunday, Jan 15, 2011- 6:40 p.m. The rain lasted only 10 minutets.  When I stepped outside the door the stars were shining. So much for that threat.   6:00 p.m. 60 degrees! Halleluyah! It's actually raining in San Felipe. It has been solid overcast all day, not cold, but damp, here in Campo San Felipe. We have a warm temperature with absolutely no breeze. Actually very pleasant as it just now is turning dark for the night. I wonder what is in store for us?  8:00 a.m. A heavy cloud pattern is sweeping directly over us as we speak. The threat of  rain is definitely possible today through early Monday.  Temperatures are under 60 degrees this morning with a high of only 66 yesterday. A warming trend will follow this low with clear skies for Martin Luther King day and the Rotary "Taste of San Felipe" following on Tuesday. We must be living right. st ...Yesterday's high was 66, low 42.

You have to be fast for a trophy photo like this. M Bohnert 6:30 a.m.

Cont'd: 8:00 a.m. A heavy cloud pattern is sweeping directly over us as we speak. Saturday, Jan 14, 2011- 9:00 a.m. The sky was completely clouded and turning red at 6:30 a.m. 20 minutes later it was all over; the sky now is just overcast. Low pressure will bring a chance of rain by tomorrow night through Monday, Martin Luther King Day. But Tuesday should be a great change back to sunny for the Rotary Taste of San Felipe. st ...Yesterday's high was 68, low 55.

Friday, the 13th, 2011- 8:00 a.m. Jogging fever is taking hold in the camps. It's not really cold, a slight, brisk breeze is enough to goad you on. Mostly clear skies may change as they predict a slight chance of showers in the Yuma forecast Sunday night. Barring that, we expect our weather to continue in the 60's through next week. st ...Yesterday's high was 68, low 55.

This was the scene we woke up to . .....photo by M.Bohnert..6:45 a.m.

Thursday, Jan 12, 2011- 8:00 a.m. Great photos emerge with cloudy skies. Warm jackets or sweate are all that is needed as temperatures remain normal and no rain predicted. We saw several shrimp/fishing pangas in the waters north of the rock. High tides have left the sand smooth once again. We see several joggers both on the beach or on the mile strip between camp and the highway. I suspect the same activity for the other camps in the area, especially when we have low tides. st ...Yesterday's high was 70, low 50.

Wednesday, Jan 11, 2011- 9:00 a.m. Cloudy skies created good sleeping-in weather. This photo was taken at 6:45 a.m. There was no breeze to speak of. But we are bundled up  ready for another cold day. I guess this will last through Friday. Maybe we'll even have a chance of light showers from the west on Sunday. (More roof jobs for local laborers?) We should return to normal next week. st ...Yesterday's high was 66, low 51.

Tuesday, Jan 10, 2011- 8:00 a.m. Brrr! It has dropped down below the 60 mark here. The electric company will be in full operation. There are a few strong, non-threatening clouds overhead but no breeze to speak of. The calm waters have again crept almost to the high mark of 18', low of -2.5'. This clears the sand & tire marks from 4-wheelers etc. and makes it much easier for strolling or beach-combing. Also low tides are great for clamming. Dress warmly and enjoy. st ...Yesterday's high was 65, low 59.9.

Monday, Jan 9, 2011- 8:00 a.m. Almost identical forecasts persist today. We're still in the 60's with a cool breeze from the north. Plenty of encouraging sunshine but it is a winter-cold that reminds us to wear jackets. When that sun drops down to the mountain line to our west it gets dark and cold quickly even though Ensenada is still in sunshine. With the full moon we will have a high tide of 18' about 1 a.m. and consequently a low tide of -3' about 8 this morning; a lower tide of -2.7 by 8 this evening. Great for clamming. st ...Yesterday's high was 68, low 56

Sunday, Jan 8, 2011- 8:00 a.m. Strong north winds have chilled the house so dress warmly this morning. Clear, cold skies are not inviting, even colder tomorrow morning. They say that it is down to normal readings for this time of year. Hang in there for Tuesday leads into the rest of the week for warmer temperatures. The Las Amigas are having a Sunday brunch scheduled for this morning. The rest of us will probably hug our fire-pots. Expect cooler morning lows by tomorrow. st ...Yesterday's high was 69, low 55

Saturday, Jan 7, 2011-1:30 p.m. 1:30 p.m. It has begun to clear away the fog and we are again wearing sun-glasses. Also, it is reasonably warm. We did not need heavy jackets to walk the dogs. 8:00 a.m. What a shock to see a heavy fog bank roll in across the Sea from the east. Visibility is down to 1/2 mile or so. We cannot see El Charro just 1/4 mile south of us. We expect lower temperatures and breezy conditions today through Tuesday. Bring out your heavy jackets again folks. st...Yesterday's high was 70, low 52

3 King's Day
Friday, Jan 6, 2011- 8:00 a.m
. Another beautiful day in paradise. The water is so calm; take your company fishing. Today is DIA DE REYES, the final day of the holiday period when many Mexican families celebrate and exchange gifts. Then follows a week-end, when they can continue time off and holiday leave. On Monday most business activity will start up for the new year. st...Yesterday's high was 72, low 55

Thursday , Jan 5, 2011- 8:00 a.m. We're still well above normal temperatures for this time of the year. A low pressure system and windy conditions are expected to bring them down to at least normal over the week-end. At SFARP Wed we learned about SKYMED emergency evacuation plans; If a plane cannot land at night, they will pay for an ambulance to get you out of SF. At the bank yesterday there were very few customers compared to a normal Thursday; businesses are still on slow-down till after Dia de Reyes (3 King's Day) tomorrow. Watch out for Monday, st...Yesterday's high was 71, low 58

Wednesday Jan 4, 2012 - 8:00 a.m. Continuing the high pressure system through the rest of the week we will be in above normal temperatures through the weekend. We are within an ebb-tide period, great for clamming and beach-combing. Businesses are still enjoying this week's slow-time but watch out for next week while they try to catch up. This morning at the SFARP meeting at the Ocotillos lodge should give more insight to the town's plans for the new year. st...Yesterday's high was 73, low 58

Tuesday Jan 3, 2012 - 8:00 a.m. The high pressure system remains. Forecasts continue to suggest above normal readings this week, maybe 5 degrees above normal by Sunday. However, situated right on the waterfront we will remain cooler. Businesses will remain slow or nil through Friday of this week, 3 King's Day which leads us into the week-end. Next week will be the start of 2012 activity. Enjoy till then. st...Yesterday's high was 71, low 61

Monday Jan 2, 2012 - 8:00 a.m. We're disappointed that they've changed the forecasts. Our expectations for temperatures in the high 70's have not yet matured. Low pressure moves in towards the end of the week cooling us by just a few degrees more. The Rotary meets this morning. Then calm waters and a low 4'8" tide at 1.30 p.m. will encourage clamming and shelling in warm sunshine. There's always something happening in San Felipe...Yesterday's high 71, low 59

HAPPY NEW YEAR
Sunday Jan 1, 2012 - 9:00 a.m.
High pressure will keep temperatures in the high 70's through all of this week in the San Felipe area. Light winds have switched to the NNE. Last night some wore faux furs expecting it to be cold for New Years Eve parties but today they will be in shorts. We may hit record highs by Thursday of this week. Stand by...st Yesterday's high was 71 low 57.

Saturday Dec 31, 2011- 8:00 a.m
. How great it is to be here in warm San Felipe. High pressure will remain for the week-end across the desert south-west. We are still expecting high temperatures near or into the 80's for New Year's Day. All the major restaurants will be in high gear, and many smaller parties will gather to avoid the midnight traffic. Semi-formal, warm-weather clothes will be popular this year because it is so tropical. Happy New Year's Eve everyone,...st Yesterday's high 74, low 53.

Friday Dec 30, 2011- 8:00 a.m. What wonderful weather for New Year's celebration days. With high pressure remaining, it is supposed to climb each day, at least till next Tuesday. A soft, warm breeze fans our flag and the ocean waters ripple with small waves. Further across the horizon we see a foggy coastline over Puerto Penasco but it will no doubt burn off quickly. Inland some friends are going to take a desert run to close out the year. In town business has picked up some. And at home everyone, it seems, is busy cooking or baking for tomorrow & the week-end. Happy holidays everyone. ..st Yesterday's high 69, low 53

Thursday Dec 29, 2011- 8:00 a.m. Happy Holidays. With temperatures in the 70's all this week friends and families will be celebrating in the warmest weather of the season; with New Year's Day maybe 77 degrees. Not a cloud in the sky to cast a shadow on calm waters softly rippling in almost no winds. It is days like this that beckon to would-be fishermen to hire a panga-deer who know the area well and can almost guarantee to find good spots. And they will even help you clean your catch for a minimum donation.....st. Yesterday's high 72, low 57.

============================= small vacation

Wednesday Dec 21, 2011- 8:00 a.m. Happy Holidays. It is back up to 60 and by Christmas it may be up to 70 again. Our beautiful sun has c hased away all signs of clouds . Mt. Diablo is clear of any snow. With no breeze whatsoever and calm waters it is going to be a beautiful San Felipe day. Indeed, it is obviously leading into a great week-end so have a Merry Christmas. ....st. Yesterday's high 72, low 57.

Tuesday Dec 20, 2011- 3:30 p.m. I'd like to say the rain has stopped, but it is still overcast and sometimes sprinkling. We show 1/2" in some places. Tony writes that Punta Estrella had almost an inch of rain. However it is 60 degrees and no breeze, very pleasant. 8:00 a.m. In complete surprise it is pouring down rain here in San Felipe. We arose around 5:00 a.m. to find a complete heavy overcast. Sure enough within 1/2 hour we had a heavy cloudburst. Besides several electrical outages I have had extreme difficulty in trying to get this weather report up today, so will stop here for now. It is now 10:00 a.m. and still pouring rain.....st. Yesterday's high 73, low 54

Monday Dec 19, 2011 8:00 a.m. Yesterday's clouds have disappeared into bright, clear sunshine. That low pressure system has now moved east across New Mexico. Friends and relatives can rely on the promise of a warm Christmas here in San Felipe. A reminder that because Christmas is on Sunday, banks and businesses will be closed on the following Monday....st. Yesterday's high 73, low 49.

Sunday Dec 18, 2011 8:00 a.m. That low pressure system is leaving us, moving east, where the snow level in South Central Arizona could drop to nearly 5500 feet. Clouds are also moving eastward. And in good ol' northern Baja our warm southern breezes are chasing away any thoughts of snow or cold. In fact we can now look forward to a milder week and indeed a warmer Christmas Day next Sunday. Heavier traffic is moving both north and south as our residents and out of town visitors come and go for the holidays. Remember Tony's warning last month: quote: "I suspect that we have already entered the season of goodwill where police at every level are expected to be productive and earn their Christmas bonuses". Drive carefully, watch those speed limits and be prepared for longer waits at the check points. st. Yesterday's high 71, low 48.

Saturday Dec 17, 2011 8:00 a.m. It certainly doesn't look like rain overhead, but those clouds could fool you. That low pressure system remains intact through today. However our sunshine and southern breeze should give us a great week-end as compared to the rest of northern Baja. With nothing major on the calendar we can partake in all the small, local gatherings sure to be with us through Christmas. Enjoy this weekend. st. Yesterday's high 72, low 47.

Friday Dec 16, 2011 8:00 a.m   Light clouds float across the skies in another relatively cold morning. That Pacific low pressure system will keep it cool through Saturday with a very slight chance of showers. Hopefully dry and warmer weather will be with us next week for Christmas. Tamales anyone? st. Yesterday's high 73., low 48.

Thursday Dec 15, 2011 8:00 a.m   Oh but it's cold, in the high 50's this morning even though next Wednesday is the 1st day of Winter, meaning the sun will start on it's return north. Let's hope it warms up into the 70's quickly today. A low pressure system from the NW could bring us a slight chance of showers tomorrow and through the week-end. Thank goodness the SFARP is having it's Christmas dinner today. Wear your jackets folks. st. Yesterday's high 72., low 49.

Wednesday Dec 14, 2011 8:00 a.m

Light rains lasted only until noon yesterday in our area. But I have a report that it poured in El Centro all day yesterday, at least through 6:00 p.m. But travelling from Mexicali home, like magic, it was like a wall stopping the rains just below El Major on Hi 5. This morning in San Felipe we still are in the 70's and 40's. The thermometer has now gone down to 58 degrees. Lot's of clouds overhead; and believe it or not we see snow on the mountains.

The waters are calm so our hardy fishermen will be out with heavy jackets, bringing in today's catch. The Las Amigas ladies are bundled up too for their meeting today. Some hotels and restaurants don't provide heat so maybe fur coats are not out of order. st. Yesterday's high 71.4, low 45.9. st.

Tuesday Dec 13, 2011 8:00 a.m   We have had light rains off and on from last evening continuing throuth this morning. To look out upon the water it is gloom and doom, heavy with humidity and light but solid cloud cover. However it is surprisingly warm and inviting. The winds are nil and the water is laying calm. Shrimp boats will probably be out in force doing their normal day's toil. It's interesting to see some shoppers carrying umbrellas to town, or wearing light jackets. Patchy fog is possible this evening, so travelling down the highway late at night is not advisable. We expect it to be a little cooler tomorrowfor the Las Amigas luncheon but warming up on Thursday when the San Felipe AARP group will be having their Christmas dinner. There will be many other activities around town.enjoying San Felipe's mild climate. Come and join us. st

Monday Dec 12, 2011 8:00 a.m   We're back into the 65 degree weather temperatures this morning but many light clouds dot the otherwise clear skies. We may still expect some rain this evening through Tuesday ahead of the pacific low pressue system off the California coast. Hopefully rain will hold off for today's Virgin de Guadalupe celebrations. Actually, it looks like we'll have cooler weather through the end of the week but hopefully still in the low 60's.Warm sweaters and jackets are all that are necessary yet in beautiful San Felipe.st

Sunday Dec 11, 2011 8:00 a.m   We continue to have clear, crisp air but it is just above 59 degrees. A Pacific storm is on the move heading East towards Baja. We're looking for a good rain tomorrow night through Tuesday, This gloomy weather should then move on across the south-western U.S leaving us cooler than average temperatures through the rest of the week. All over town there are small gatherings through the holidays. Sorry the weather forecasts are not that cheerful. .... st Yesterday's high 73, overnight low 50

Saturday Dec 10, 2011 8:00 a.m Yesterday's high was only 72, but the night warmed considerably. We saw an almost complete eclipse of the moon at 5:15 this morning before it headed over the mountains to the west. Now the air is so clear and crisp even shadows have outlines. The RECORD off-road racers should be heading back to Ensenada today. Breakfast at the Swap Meet and the Casa de Fe luncheon at Pete's Camp today sound delicious. Fishermen are doing well; proof are the many wonderful seafood menus all over town. Optimism is very high this time of year.... st Yesterday's high 72, overnight low 54

Friday Dec 9, 2011 8:00 a.m   We have a more positive outlook for the weather picture this morning. It is already 8 degrees warmer than yesterday morning and we're looking for near normal temperatures for the week-end, maybe in the high 70's. Light, warm breezes from the SW is encouraging for the Ensenada-San Felipe RECORD Off-road race starting today. Closer to home Volunteers for Indigent and Vulnerable Animals, VIVA, is holding a brunch at Los Arco. Also, Casa de Fe, is hosting a brunch at Pete's Camp tomorrow. And calm waters will bring out the fishermen, guaranteeing fresh seafood for every menu... st Yesterday's high 74, overnight low 48

Thursday Dec 8, 2011 8:00 a.m Brr. Back on go those heavy jackets this morning. There are lots of clouds up there, but they should burn off quickly. We hit a new low for the season in San Felipe but already as I am typing this the temperature has risen to 55 degrees. I do not know when the City Light Parade is today but wear a warm jacket and choose to stand in the sun. They still promise nice weather for the week-end and the race. ... st Yesterday's high 70, overnight low 45

Pearl Harbor Day
Wednesday Dec 7, 2011 8:00 a.m We have a sunny day, much warmer than yesterday.  But there are heavy, white snowball clouds across much of our otherwise blue sky. With harly any breeze and almost 60 degrees we can doff those jackets early. The pangas should be out in full force gathering lots of shrimp, small, medium and large and covina fish to sell at the swapmeet and other outlets around town. You can almost guarantee to find venders down at the pier for a good price. Today we should have a great turn-out for the San Felipe AARP (SFARP) meeting. And many visitors will come for the race starting Friday. It promises to be nice weather through the week-end
... st Yesterday's high 70, overnight low 48

Tuesday Dec 6, 2011 8:00 a.m It looks like we may have warmer weather today through Sunday at least. Here the brisk morning air unexpectedly hits you as you step outside the door. And as you move out from the sheltered area a cold northern breeze whips your jacket around you. There are small whitecaps on the water, enough to keep most pangas at home for one more day. All this may calm for the Ensenada-San Felipe RECORD Off-road race starting Friday. Tell your visitors to bring warm jackets if they plan to monitor the race.
